Clark's Unintended Shower

Yesterday Clark and I drove some Boy Scouts to a small university in Rolla where they would be taking merit badge classes. Clark was invited to stay and play with the Skinner's but he decided he wanted to hang out with me instead.

The boys I was driving were taking the same merit badge so we just hung out down the hall from their classroom where we had found a TV. Clark watched TV and I talked to Ruth on the phone.

At the end of the day as we were walking down the hall to go outside I passed a big lever surrounded by a stainless steel panel on the wall. At first I thought "Wow, that is a serious lever. Is it for a power shut-off or something?" But as I got closer I saw that it said something to the effect of "Emergency Rinse and Eye Wash Station".

I walked about 10 more steps and turned around to see if Clark was following me. Just as I turned around I saw his hand pulling the lever! There wasn't enough time for me to do anything except watch him get drenched with a cascade of "chemical-burn-saving" water from the wall and ceiling! Luckily, Clark likes to wear his coat with the hood on if we're going outside so he didn't really even get wet.

The whole thing combined with the shock on his face was just too much. I tried to look serious, but the huge smile on my face was a result of my best efforts to keep from laughing out loud.

Anyway, you probably had to be there; it was pretty funny. We went to the bathroom and grabbed about 100 paper towels and cleaned up the bulk of it. He was very apologetic, but luckily he wasn't too sad he had gotten wet.

From 6 to 2

As many of you know, Ruth is in the Columbia Regional Hospital on bed rest until the baby is born (11-13 weeks from now).

Cal is with Darrell in OK. Clark really missed him when he realized Cal was gone. Clark and the girls and I went to the park and then we came home and ate dinner.

Before all the craziness broke out, Ruth and I were going to go on a date Thursday night and a family in our ward was going to watch the kids. They have a son Clark's age named Christopher and last week Clark asked what day he was going to Christopher's. When I picked him up from School on Thursday he said, "Hey, I get to go to Christopher's tonight!" Well, we had obviously canceled with them but hadn't sent Clark the memo (I honestly didn't think he'd remember). Clark was pretty sad already with Cal and Mom being gone so I called them up and asked if we could still come over and just let the kids play for a little while. So, we did that.

Last night after work Clark, Shanna, Haley and I drove up to Columbia to see Ruth while Mike was on his way up here with Jon to pick up the girls.

The girls were happy to see Ruth and even sat on the bed with her this time. Last time I think the whole hospital thing was a little weird for them and they didn't really want anything to do with that crazy hospital bed.

Mike got here about the same time we did. We basically just went to bed. The kids slept well and ate breakfast really well too. I got the girls' things together and they were on the road by 10:45 or so.

I vacuumed out the van, we went to the library, Clark played outside with his friend up the street (Bella), we ate lunch, and went to a park with the VanFosson's (Kelly and Chris) and Claudia and one of her kids. Kelly took Clark to the park while I went grocery shopping and then I met up with them when I was done. We probably stayed a the park for like 2 hours! Clark had a good time.

Here's a few pictures for you're viewing pleasure:
